Kalli McCandless and Cory Corker and I went to Knapp’s Castle this past Thursday. They corresponded through MySpace to arrange what color the clothes and makeup would be. They did a great job!
I learned a lot from this shoot and will be better prepared next time. Thanks Kalli and Cory for dressing up and letting me take pictures of you. I hope you like them.

In the Lompoc Photographers Guild (LPG) we have a theme every month. We take pictures based on that theme and bring them to the monthly meeting, and share them with the group. This month it was Purple. I was having a hard time coming up with this theme, so I called Kalli and asked if I could take photo’s on her. She said “purple is my favorite color”. That was great news. So she got ready and off we went to under the bridge by the old Drive In theater. There were many walls with graffiti on them..it was so cool. It was windy, but we managed to get a few photos. Kalli did her makeup and hair, and choose what clothes to wear…I just took the pictures. Thanks again Kalli for helping me out. You are a very creative woman, and I enjoy taking pictures of you.

I met Kalli at the Renaissance Faire in March of 2010. I just went up to her and asked to take her photo. Then about a month ago I was eating lunch with a friend and Kalli came in to pick up some food to go. I saw this woman with different colors in her hair, and approached her again, and asked if I could take her photos. I didn’t put the two together until I went to pick her up for this photo shoot. We both realized that we had met months ago at the Faire. She is very artistic with hair, make up, and clothes. When she came to the door I just kept looking at her and saying “you look so awesome”.
It was a very easy photo shoot because Kalli already knew how to pose. I gave her little instruction. I’ve been so fortunate with the people that model for me. They are all “naturals”. I hope I captured not only her beauty but the confident woman she is. Thanks Kalli for your time and for allowing me to take your pictures. I had a great time.

I felt like taking photo’s of Lauren and Ben yesterday and I gave Lauren a call. She agreed to take photos with me later that day. First we went to the drainage ditch with graffiti. I’ve been wanting to take photos there, but never did until yesterday. I liked it there, and I like graffiti…it is an art. We have so many murals that I don’t understand why we don’t have ones that are made by spraying paint too.
After that adventure we went to North 2nd Street where an abandoned railroad car is with graffiti all over it. Took some photos there and then off to the cemetery. It was so peaceful there and we all ended up sitting on the grass above the graves resting and talking. After a few shots and a good downtime we went to Panda Express to treat them to lunch for being my models.
I had a great time and always like hanging out with Lauren and Ben. Thanks to both of you.

Well I finally made it to a Solstice Parade in Santa Barbara. It’s celebrates the first day of Spring. There were so many people and so much to see. Some of my photo’s, in fact, most of them were blurry. So here are a few I salvaged. Had a great time and met some really cool people. Will go again.

Yesterday I went with Sherrie and Cathy to Cold Spring Tavern for Sherrie’s birthday, and to listen to Sean Wiggins and Paul Houston. They were really good and I was pleasantly surprised. Sean’s voice was really nice and she would change the way she sang different songs. They performed a Stevie Ray Vaughan song, Cold Shot, that I really like. Unfortunately I didn’t get any good pictures of our group, but another lesson learned. I also learned that I am now going to carry a pad of paper and a pen, so I can remember the names of the people that I take pictures of. We all had a great time, and Sherrie’s birthday was a success.

Tony and I went to the Flower Festival before hardly anything was there and I got a couple of pictures. Today I meet Laura, Andrea, and little Carlos at the park. We had a great time. Andrea played on the playground equipment and met a few girls and one she called her best friend Lilly. I got a picture of them together. Then we went and looked at all the commercial items for sale. I met this guy there that was very animated and I liked his look. So I asked him if I could take his picture, and there is one of him in this group. We had fun smelling all the freshly made incense and we both bought some. There was a vendor there that sold these large beans with words on them like love, wealth, happiness and so on. You put them on a wet paper towel and when they grow the seedling will still have the name on the pod. Pretty cool.
Next we went to the food booths. Yummy. I had 2 vegetable taco’s, some wedge fries, and a chocolate cake with strawberries and whipped cream on top. There was some live entertainment as well. We both ran into people we know and talked with them for awhile. I had a good time…thanks Laura.
Today is Friday the 25th of June. Spent some time at the Flower Festival again. Ran into lots of people that I know. It’s always so nice when you see someone and they embrace you with a warm smile and say ” well hello”. It just makes me feel so good. Today I went with my friend Sally. We meet over a year ago, and I see her at her job often, but we never got together to do something. Well today we went to the Flower Festival and she ate lunch and I only had an iced tea. I was still full from yesterday. Anyway we listen to the band playing and checked out the vendors and artwork. The Cypress Gallery people had an area with art, I bought two cards from Debbie…thanks Debbie. Richard Axline was there with his artwork up for sale. He asked me “when are you going to have a booth?”I told him I wanted to become more comfortable with taking pictures before I have a booth. Never know maybe next year . Thanks to everyone that supports me..it is helping me to become more confident.

I met Maria at the car wash one day and asked her right then if I could take pictures of her. About 2 months later we got together and took these pictures. I thought because she works at the car wash I’d take some pictures of her going through the car wash. Two of the pictures we took were from going through the car wash, which was a lot of fun. Then we drove up to Los Alamos. It was a very windy day and we thought it would be less windy there. It wasn’t, but I was able to get these few photo’s of her.
First we stopped at a ranch for sale and there was a small shelter by the front gate. It blocked the wind which was a great find. Then we went into Los Alamos and took pictures by The 1880 Union Hotel. A women was walking into the hotel and asked if we wanted to take pictures in the barn. At least that’s what I thought she said. Maria and I followed her through two swinging doors into a bar. I asked “where’s the barn”. She said, “no I said the bar”. “Oh I said I thought you said barn.”
I guess this bar is one of the oldest bars around the area. We were able to take pictures at the bar, and on a black couch with red pillows that was next to the piano. We opened the back door to try and get some light , but it wasn’t happening, and I was too lazy to go back to the car to get my tripod and external flash. We then went out the back door to a very small area that had some sun. Wasn’t easy place to take pictures, and the sun was blocked and throwing shadows.
Maria loves her droid, so I had to take a few pictures of her using it. We went to the Los Alamos County Park.
I really enjoyed taking Maria’s picture and would love to do it again sometime. She is a beautiful woman and a great model…easy to work with. Thanks Maria, I hope you like the photos.

I was driving around town one day when I saw Lauren and Ben. I pulled over to the curb, gave them my card, and asked them if I could take their picture. I got a call from Lauren a few weeks later, and so we went together on Saturday to take photo’s. I really enjoyed this photo session with Lauren and Ben. It was fun hanging out and taking pictures of them. Thanks Lauren and Ben.

Went to Knapp’s Castle with Jennifer and Michelle to take pictures of them with the LPG. It was extremely cold and the wind was really blowing hard. I can’t believe they made in through over 2 hours of us taking pictures of them. That was real dedication and I appreciate all that they did for us. Knapp’s Castle is located in the Santa Barbara County Hills that was destroyed by a fire years ago. There are still 3 arches standing and 2 fireplaces, along with the main wall. You can see Lake Cachuma from the Castle and the view is speculator.
